This Might Be the Best Pork Chop in Ximending — Maybe Even All of Taipei

Hidden beneath the busy streets of Ximending, inside the basement of the Wan Nian Building at No. 70, Xining South Road, is a spot that locals know and food lovers need to find. Jin Yuan Porkchop doesn’t advertise with bright lights or big signs. Instead, it lets the food do the talking.

This place is built for efficiency. Tables are communal, the space is compact, and there's a steady turnover of diners. You mark your choices on a printed menu form and hand it to the staff. Once seated, they serve the food at your table. After you finish, bring the form to the cashier near the exit to pay. Despite the quick pace, the atmosphere feels grounded and unpretentious.

Gorgeous pork chop! We miss you!

Their pork chop is the kind you dream about days later. Perfectly cooked, juicy, and just crispy enough on the outside. It’s full of flavor without being too salty or greasy. Simple, honest, and done just right.

The rice isn’t just filler either. It comes topped with a rich minced pork sauce and a mix of vegetables that could honestly be a meal on its own. Together with the pork chop, it’s deeply satisfying.

I also tried the blanched greens. Fresh and lightly seasoned, they were clean-tasting and easy to finish. The pork rib noodle soup was okay but didn’t hit the same high notes. Their chicken was solid too — juicy and mild, though not the standout.

If you’re in Taipei and craving something classic and comforting, Jin Yuan Porkchop deserves a spot on your list. It might just be the best pork chop in the city.

Here’s their menu in both Mandarin and English for reference:
