Taipei 101 Photo Spot Alternative to Elephant Mountain
Most people visiting Taipei head to Elephant Mountain for a shot of the city skyline. But if you're not in the mood to climb stairs or deal with crowds, there's a more relaxed option, Takemura Izakaya in Xinyi District.
This small, low-key izakaya (Japanese bar) is tucked away behind Taipei 101, in a narrow alley that’s easy to miss unless you’re looking for it. What makes it special is the unexpected view. From the entrance of Takemura Izakaya, you get a perfectly framed view of Taipei 101 rising between the narrow buildings of the alley. The glowing red lanterns hanging outside the izakaya add a warm foreground to the shot, making it one of the most unique and atmospheric photo spots in the city. It’s become a favorite for locals and travelers who want a special angle of the tower without climbing a mountain or pushing through crowds.
The spot while the sun’s still up.
But Takemura Izakaya is more than just a photo spot. It’s a great place to slow down and enjoy the city at night. Once you find a table, either indoors or along the alley, head to the fridge and grab a beer. They offer local Taiwanese brews and a few imports. After that, check the menu and order a few skewers. The food is simple and satisfying, grilled chicken is the bomb.
This spot is ideal for solo travelers, couples, or small groups who want something more laid-back. It’s easy to get to, doesn’t require a reservation and stays open late.
